Maverick's Program

Leverage Your Unreasonable Genius

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."
- George Bernard Shaw

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle."
- Steve Jobs

She was interested in literature. She wanted to be a business entrepreneur. Or perhaps being an author would be more interesting. And what about the passion for debating and world affairs? And her music and painting? Her recent involvement in the Model United Nations on the other hand inspired her along the direction of becoming an IAS officer. It was just too much. Only last week there had been a Career Counseling at school. The Counselor himself had in the end confessed that he had never encountered so peculiar a case. This student had just too many interests. And she was equally excellent in all of them. The questionnaire he had given had been completely inconclusive.  Perhaps she should chose one of the interests at random and focus on it as a career. She disagreed. Her gut feelings told her that she could not chose one of her interests and ignore the rest. Somehow, somewhere, and that meant at some university, she would be able to take on all of them. Or, if not she would find a way herself, to do so.

Priya Bharadwaj had just entered her 11th grade and had two years before she had to settle on a professional career. She wanted to find a way for herself by that time. But it appeared to be no easy task. Everywhere she went she was asked to narrow down on one field and to focus. It was the age of specialization she was told. And she had to cut down on all but one interest and make it her career field. It was at that time that she encountered the CFRCE Maverick's Program.

As soon as she secured her admission into the program she was encouraged to take up three or four different fields of interest. She chose Economics, Political Science, Mathematics and Business Studies. In economics, she chose to focus on the exciting modern developments in Complexity Economics. She devoured Beinhocker's "The Origin of Wealth," and Salvia Nasser's "Grand Pursuit,"  Mitchell Waldrop's "Complexity," Roger Penrose's "The Road to Reality," Chris Anderson's "The Long Tail," Guy Kawasaki's "The Art of the Start," and a whole lot of other books related to her chosen fields.  She read, reread and reviewed the books and wrote essays and articles to consolidate her learning.

And soon enough, in a very short period of time, she was on her way to make her dream a reality. She was working to become an author, a statesperson, a journalist and economist all in one in an uniquely independent manner.

The CFRCE Maverick's Program is for the student endowed with that unreasonable genius within.  Such an individual "does not fit himself or herself to the circumstances. He or she would relentlessly strive to fit the circumstances into his or her requirements. And all progress eventually depends on such individuals."  This program empowers the student to channelize his or her creative genius along an entrepreneurial direction by harmonizing diverse interests and passion of the student in an uncompromising manner. Thus the student benefits more by pursuing several interests simultaneously rather than narrowing down on one of them.
